For 2010, the Endowment Board has decided to award 32 grants @ $300 each. This grant is open to all graduate students in accredited programs. These grants are named after Professor Michael Schoenecke of Texas Tech University, who has for many years provided dedicated leadership to the organizations, national and regional, in terms of encouraging and supporting graduate student participation and hosting professional development sessions.
Applicants can be either M.A. or Ph.D. level students and should complete the application process detailed below and submit it electronically to (Michael.Schoenecke@ttu.edu) by no later than December 31, of the year prior to the national conference. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.
To be considered for the Schoenecke Graduate Student Travel Grant, students must
- fill out the application form appended below
- include the abstract that was submitted for the national program
- write a one page (250 words or fewer) statement discussing
a) the thesis and scope of the presentation,
b) the extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture and/or American Culture Studies
c) how this paper will contribute to your future professional goals.
Proposals will be evaluated on
- quality of the paper's thesis and scope
- extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture Studies and/or American Culture Studies
- the extent to which the paper reflects a student's future professional goals. Decisions will be reached by the end of January, 2007 and the results communicated electronically. Successful applicants will find their award checks in their conference registration packets at the national meeting.
These grants should be considered a supplement to present at the national conference. There are many applications; applicants should make financial arrangements to attend even if a grant is not awarded.
