The Peter Rollins Travel Grant for Early-Career Faculty to the National Conference
For 2012, the Endowment Board has decided to award 12 grants @ $500 each. These grants are named after Professor Peter Rollins who has worked for many years in the nexus between Popular Culture, film, and history. He has been President of the PCA and one of the founders of the Southwest/Texas regional PCA/ACA. Among his many publications are Hollywood's West(s): The American Frontier in Film, Television, and History,The Columbia UP Companion to American History on Film,The West Wing: The American Presidency as Television Drama,Hollywood's White House: The American Presidency in Film and History (Awarded the Ray and Pat Browne Award), and Hollywood's Indian: The Native American in Film. His documentaries include: Television's Vietnam: The Real Story(1984) and Will Rogers' 1920s: A Cowboy's Guide to the Times (1976).
Applicants must have received their doctorate (Ph.D) within the four years prior to the national conference. They may be tenure-stream, non-tenure stream, or independent scholars. Applicants should complete the application process detailed below and submit it electronically to Endowment Director Fred Isaac at fredisaac@aol.com no later than January 7, 2012. Please note that applicants may apply for only one PCA/ACA grant in any given year.
To be considered for the Rollins Travel Grant, individuals must fill out the application form (see below for PDF)
Proposals will be evaluated on
- quality of the paper's thesis and scope
- extent to which the paper reflects and contributes to the study of Popular Culture Studies and/or American Culture Studies
