Indian Culture, Art, & Media

Call For Proposals

The 2012 National PCA/ACA Popular Culture Association /American Culture Association Conference will be held in Boston April 11 to 14.

Deadline for Proposal submissions is 15 December.

Indian Culture, Art & Media – Area of the PCA/ACA cconference provides a scholarly forum, an important site of creative, intellectual, and cultural exchange to share and disseminate research about “Indian Culture, Art & Media.” Broadly defined, the area includes all forms and styles of art, media (visual art, dance, music and film) from all times and geographic locations that engage with issues, ideas and practices related to Indian aesthetics, and culture

India is a country that offers a cornucopia of myriad aesthetics, from Bollywood films, posters, billboards, to its cities/streets, bazaars, localities, visual contemporary/modern art, dance, music, and mass media/TV screen, and other aspects. We welcome and invite scholars to submit proposals for panel sessions/roundtable, individual presentations that engage with issues, ideas and practices related to Indian aesthetics and culture, especially topics that would stimulate a dialogue across a variety of disciplines. The connection between Indian popular visual culture, imagery (broadly defined), the social processes and art forms intertwine with representation, identity, production, consumption and the growing popularity of Indianness.
